Intersectionality in Change Management

Image
I was in the learning process of a #DEI course when I came across a very impressive presentation by Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw . This motivated me to write a few lines about #Diversity and #Inclusion and share my thoughts on the subject and how I identify myself as intersectional not only in the transformation of work environment but also in the transformation of society. #Intersectionality (or intersectional theory) is a term first coined in 1989 by American civil rights advocate and leading scholar of critical race theory, Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw. It is the study of overlapping or intersecting social identities and related systems of oppression, domination, or discrimination. Intersectionality is crucial in a work environment because it recognizes and addresses the interconnectedness of different aspects of a person's identity, such as race, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, ability, and socioeconomic status. It highlights that individuals can experience overlapping forms of disc...

Mondays, Am I Right?

Image
Recently I was watching " The Good Place" and together with many philosophical statements, Season 4, Episode 11 ( Mondays, Am I Right? ) motivated me to write some points of about change management which presented in this episode.   Despite the title of this episode which demonstrates the huge pain of working humans (going to work on Mondays 😏), this episode and episodes before this are picturing good examples and lessons of change management and transformation in organizations. Mixing agile project lessons and philosophy with comedy made this concept fun and exciting to learn. We watch how effective communication with all stakeholders makes it much easier and innovative to transform an organization. And how a good and positive intention leads to good planning to include all aspects and stakeholders. And then not only communication but positiveness can change the mindsets of people (in this case even evils) Raising proper awareness about problems, obstacles and the...

Peter Drucker in Fortune 500

Image
Watching The Pentaverate and at episode 3 there was a quote from Peter Drucker : "No institution can possibly survive if it needs geniuses or supermen to manage it. It must be organized in such a way as to be able to get along under a leadership composed of average human beings." In some way, it is true but how many businesses in Fortune 500 follow this rule? When you look at #Amazon, #Apple, Berkshire Hathaway, Tesla, Microsoft, ... you spot leadership's amazing magic is working inside them and proves itself by #revenue results. How are new technologies such as AI affecting leadership skills? Are some people born with business leadership instincts? What is the combination of instincts and skills in their leadership methodology? What would leadership look like in the long term? Avoiding Complex Language

Image
I was watching one of Shade Zahrai posts on Instagram and I realized "How many times I undermined my efforts and skills with using complex language in work or life!?" and "How many people I met with self-doubt and imposter syndrome trying to hide themselves behind complex jargon during my career!?" The answer to the above questions is: Many, too many! In the early years of my career, I was thinking that if I used some complex words in my interactions with customers and colleagues, it would give me a professional face and prove that I am smart and well aware of the environment! Which was a wrong idea most of the time, since using those words or sentences (especially with high level clients) were leading the conversation to total confusion and misunderstanding. Gradually I learned to use jargon in some specific places where there was real necessity to express specific topics. Thanks to this discovery, my communication effectiveness advanced simultaneously and th...

A Company For Confusion

Image
I was reading an amazing article by Capgemini regarding #Strategic #Personnel #Planning (#SPP) and it suddenly reminded me of a rare real event in my career. Here I share the short #story and of course the #lessons I learned from that. In the process of #change or #improvement in an organization #structure, there are certain important steps which we should be aware of.   Background: I had a successful time in a small-medium #IT company for several years. Closing #profitable deals, leading an agile sales and commercial team and growing my skills in business development / management. It was not easy to develop business aspects in such a company because of many strategic barriers and I decided to apply for roles in bigger companies. During my job search a friend of mine who was working in the biggest #office machines company in the region, offered to take my CV to his manager. I was excited about taking recruitment steps because this company was ...

Account Receivables - A Change Management Story

Image
Background of Change: At a #nationwide contractor company, there was a huge mess in issued #invoices for 2 main customers. An unbelievable mixed up of all different #equipment or #service invoices. a pile of more than 1000 old, existing contracts, including or excluding #tax, including or excluding premium calculation, completely or partially #reconciled. It was nearly impossible for a project manager to dig through previous projects' invoice background. There was no single database to include all necessary information of all invoices together and in one place. However, all necessary general information of contracts were stored in the #ERP and were #accessible for daily work needs. This was a correct initiative for company top levels to find a #solution, fix previous invoices or contracts and of course prevent #future difficulties. Environment: For several years #Accounting (Finance) department and #Project controllers worked on these #chaotic parameters ...

A simple story about change management mistakes

Image
Background: Around 3 years ago I got an invitation to join a huge volunteer team serving a #worldwide #charity . I was/am very glad to have the opportunity to be (even having a small role) participant in one of the biggest movements in the world. The organization has tens of thousands of volunteers and thousands of partners serving extraordinary content for nearly six hundred million unique app users and hundreds of million website users all around the world. After my registration, I received an orientation with a simple, clear and right to the point presentation. Then it took me less than one week to roll in and practically participate as a #volunteer in the translation team. my job description was simple too, even I had no experience working with 2 major platforms: 1- #Communication platform (S): Project managers/coordinators publishing links (topics and assignments) on this #platform. 2- #Content platform (C): I and other volunteers translate links' content ...
